The John Hazen White Center  sponsors several signature initiatives, including those that explore institutional dimensions of ethical practice, encourage student service learning, and foster public service broadly construed.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RECENT SIGNATURE INITIATIVES<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Institutional Dimensions of Ethical Practice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Commissioned a White Paper on Integrating Ethics Across URI<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ongoing sponsorship of a Summer Institute on Ethics Across the Curriculum for URI Faculty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ongoing sponsorship of an annual John Hazen White Sr. Center of Ethics and Public Service Lecture as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/hc\/\">URI Fall Honors Colloquium<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Convening an Ethics Summit for all divisions at the University of Rhode Island<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Investment in curricular development around indigenous culture and language as well as future curatorial content for the Tomaquag Museum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Student Service Learning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Annual sponsorship of a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2082\/2022-Research-Fellow-for-the-RI-Ethics-Commission.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2082\/2022-Research-Fellow-for-the-RI-Ethics-Commission.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student Ethics Fellow<\/a> with the <a href=\"https:\/\/ethics.ri.gov\/\">Rhode Island Ethics Commission<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for Alternative Spring Break service projects for undergraduates, such as building housing for low-income families<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for student participation in Winter J-term Study Abroad courses to Cuba and the Dominican Republic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Underwriting student service fellowships for targeted individual projects&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Investment in curricular innovations that integrate ethical practice with service to the public<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Foster Public Service<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Created and support two student academic year internship programs with <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/rhody-outpost\/\">Rhody Outpost<\/a> and with the URI Government Affairs team in the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/president\/team\/\">Office of the President<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commissioning a White Paper on Integrating Public Service at URI<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sponsor visiting practitioner and public events featuring professionals in government and public service, such as that of Dr. Mary Thompson Jones on diplomacy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing an Awards program to recognize excellence in public service among members of the URI community (staff, faculty, students)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MISSION To facilitate URI Community conversations regarding the practice of ethics and to foster university engagement in public service throughout the State of Rhode Island.
