Global awareness is a fundamental component of many programs of study here at URI. It is a critical element in developing spatial literacy.<\/p>\n<h3>Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>The minor requires a total of 18 credits. Required courses for the minor include GEG 101: World Geography (3 credits), and three of the following (9 credits):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GEG 104: Political Geography<\/li>\n<li>GEG 200: Human Geography<\/li>\n<li>TBA<\/li>\n<li>TBA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Six credits of electives are chosen from the following list in consultation with the geography advisor:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>AAF\/PSC 410: Issues in African Development<\/li>\n<li>AAF\/PSC 466: Urban Problems<\/li>\n<li>APG 203: Cultural Anthropology<\/li>\n<li>CPL 410: Fundamentals of Community Planning Practice<\/li>\n<li>GEG 202: Introductory Urban Geography: Understanding Cities<\/li>\n<li>GEO 103: Understanding the Earth<\/li>\n<li>GEO 210: Landforms: Origin and Evolution<\/li>\n<li>HIS (a state, regional, or national history course)<\/li>\n<li>OCG 123: Climate Change and the Oceans<\/li>\n<li>PSC 116: Introduction to International Politics<\/li>\n<li>PSC 377: Politics of China<\/li>\n<li>PSC 408: African Governments and Politics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These courses cannot be double counted for a student\u2019s academic minor and major.<\/p>\n<h3>Contact<\/h3>\n<p>Interested students should contact Professor William Gordon in the East Tower Office of Rodman Hall (third floor), 401.874.5108 or\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:wgordon@uri.edu\">wgordon@uri.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The minor in geography is designed to enhance student spatial skills.
