Carothers Library &amp; Learning Commons, located on the Kingston campus, is equipped with automatic entrance\/exit doors and elevators on the first floor. Visit<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/transportation\/parking\/\"> the University\u2019s Transportation and Parking Page<\/a> to learn more about accessible parking spaces near the Carothers Library. Wheelchair accessible restrooms are available on every floor of the Carothers Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pell Library, located in the Ocean Science and Exploration Center on the Bay campus, features accessible entry doors, nearby accessible parking, and elevators. On the second floor, patrons can find a wheelchair accessible, single use bathroom with a baby changing station. The service desks are wheelchair accessible, and library staff will retrieve materials for patrons upon request.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For additional information about building access and accessible restrooms, see <a href=\"http:\/\/map.uri.edu\">map.uri.edu<\/a> .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Locating Materials &amp; Information<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On-Site Access<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All service desks have wheelchair accessible counters. Faculty, staff, and student workers at the Research Help and Circulation Desks are available to assist you in navigating online databases and catalogs and accessing library materials.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wheelchair accessible computer workstations are available on the first floor. From the accessible public computers, users can search online, access library subscription databases, and search our library catalog. Patrons are also welcome to bring their personal devices and will have on-site access to subscription library resources after connecting to URI\u2019s guest WiFi (URI Open).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>University Archives and Special Collections\u2019 reading room for patrons using UASC collections includes a height-adjustable table, modular book cradle, and magnifying glass to facilitate collection use. UASC will also digitize materials on demand to facilitate access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Online Assistance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"mailto:researchhelp@uri.edu\">Research Help<\/a>, <a href=\"mailto:archives@uri.edu\">University Archives and Special Collections<\/a> and <a href=\"mailto:urigovpubs-group@uri.edu\">Government Publications<\/a> offer assistance via email to support researchers who are deaf, nonverbal, or who may not be able physically to visit the library. Research Help also offers <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/library\/help\/im-urilibrarian\/\">chat services<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Retrieving Materials<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Library staff can assist patrons with retrieving physical materials. Patrons may request assistance retrieving materials through the library catalog (after signing into a personal account), in person at the Circulation Desk, or by contacting Circulation via phone or email. For more information on how to request materials, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/uri.libguides.com\/circulation\/dai\">Circulation guide<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Proxy Services<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students who are registered with URI\u2019s Office of Disability, Access, &amp; Inclusion may designate another individual as a proxy to borrow materials on their behalf. Patrons seeking to arrange proxy services should contact Circulation at the Carothers Library via email at <a href=\"mailto:librarycirc-group@uri.edu\">librarycirc-group@uri.edu<\/a> or phone at 401.874.2672.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HathiTrust Access&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hathitrust.org\/accessible-texts\"> HathiTrust Accessible Text Request Service<\/a> is available to URI students with documented print disabilities who have qualified through URI\u2019s office of <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/disability\/\">Disability, Access, and Inclusion (DAI)<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eligible students may request digital access to <em>any<\/em> book in the HathiTrust Digital Library, even books with copyright restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get access, locate a book in HathiTrust (see<a href=\"https:\/\/uri.libguides.com\/hathitrust\"> Accessing HathiTrust from URI<\/a> for more information), and then fill out the<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfYriUjvRtaL_BMc_iGizXxQ-BSNddD6gb0c4niPRT5bQjyTA\/viewform\"> request form<\/a> to request a full copy of the book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Someone in the Digital Initiatives unit of the University Libraries will respond to your request within 2 business days. If your request is accepted, we will email you an accessible PDF copy of the book downloaded from HathiTrust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Internet Archive\u2019s Print-Disabled Collection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>URI\u2019s office of <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/disability\/\">Disability, Access, and Inclusion (DAI)<\/a> is a qualified authority to designate user accounts for access to Internet Archive services for students with print disabilities. URI students with qualifying print disabilities (such as blind, low vision, and dyslexic users, and others) may contact DAI to request access to ebooks available through the Internet Archive\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/printdisabled?tab=collection\">Books for People with Print Disabilities<\/a> collection (either via a browser or protected download).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/about\/\">Internet Archive<\/a> is a non-profit digital library that provides access to millions of text and multimedia resources. Some materials require setting up a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/signup\">free account<\/a> for access.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">United States Government Publications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The University of Rhode Island is a federal depository library. As such, electronic federal publications and information technology used by the Federal Government, including their websites, are subject to compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (also, \u201cSection 508\u201d), which requires accessibility standards to be met under Section 508 for all electronic federal government publications.
