Both domestic and international students who want to be considered for financial aid should submit completed applications by December 15.<\/p><\/div><\/section><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>You do not need a Marine Affairs faculty advisor when you are applying for admission, though you are encouraged to contact potential advisors before you apply\u2013especially if you are applying to the Ph.D. program. You will meet many of the faculty active in the program in your first semester and will discover then who works on issues of interest to you.<\/p>\n<p>Submit your application online through the URI Graduate School and be sure to note additional information for international applicants.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2>Online portion of the application<\/h2>\n<div class=\"button-list\" style=\"width: 300px;float: right;margin-left: 40px\"><a class=\"cl-button   prominent\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/graduate-school\/apply\/\" title=\"\">Apply<\/a><\/div>\n<p>The URI Graduate School uses the Centralized Application System (C.A.S.) for all online applications. Detailed instructions are provided in the CAS system once you create an account.<\/p>\n<p>To complete the online application, you will need to provide the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Personal contact and demographic information<\/li>\n<li>Residency status (refer to Residency Guidelines if you are unsure of your status)<\/li>\n<li>Intended start term<\/li>\n<li>Plan of study to which you seek admission (M.M.A., M.A.M.A., Ph.D.)<\/li>\n<li>Unofficial transcripts<\/li>\n<li>Educational background (undergraduate institution, major, GPA, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Resume\/CV \u2013 Showing education, work, volunteer, teaching, service experience, and publications (as appropriate). Add as an attachment to your application.<\/li>\n<li>Personal statement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>MMA applicants must show that they will have, prior to beginning their first semester of the MMA program: (1) Completed a graduate degree program in a field useful in coastal and ocean management, such as the behavioral sciences, ocean science or engineering, resource economics, law, political science or public administration; or(2) At least three years of post-graduate professional experience relevant to the MMA degree; or (3) Completed at least one year of full time graduate study at Roger Williams University School of Law, Rhode Island School of Design or University of Rhode Island and are applying to the MMA as part of a joint degree program. As part of their personal statement, MMA applicants must explicitly articulate how they meet at least one of the above requirements, based on which the Marine Affairs admissions committee will make a final determination of eligibility.<\/p>\n<p>Ph.D. applicants being considered for admission after initial review of their application will be invited for a zoom or in-person interview with the admissions committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Testing information<\/strong> \u2013 GRE scores are not considered in admissions decisions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>International students whose native language is not English are required to submit official results of the TOEFL or IELTS exam taken within the past 2 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>Personal statement<\/strong> \u2013 you should prepare your 1-3 page statement in a word processing program and then copy and paste your statement directly into the space provided. Tell us about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your professional goals<\/li>\n<li>What you might want to do once you complete the MAF program<\/li>\n<li>What your passions are<\/li>\n<li>What attracts you to the program<\/li>\n<li>Who on the faculty you might like to work with (and why)<\/li>\n<li>Why you are an exciting candidate for MAF<\/li>\n<li>M.M.A. applicants who do not have a master&#8217;s degree should include a note about how they meet the admission requirement outlined above.<\/li>\n<li>See <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/academics\/personal-statement\/\">additional guidelines<\/a> to help you prepare your statement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Letters of Recommendation<\/strong> \u2013 two letters are required.<br \/>\nEnter the names, e-mail addresses and date of your request for each referee.<br \/>\nThe referees will receive instructions for uploading their letters to the online system.<br \/>\nReferees will receive this message from the application system immediately after you save your application with their names and e-mails entered.<br \/>\nWe recommend you notify your recommenders beforehand because the messages sometimes go to SPAM or Trash folders if security settings are high.<br \/>\nIf for some reason your referees are unable to use the online system, they may mail a hard copy directly to the MAF department<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unofficial Transcripts<\/strong> \u2013 Please attach your unofficial transcripts as PDFs.
