Environmental Science, MPhil Environmental Science, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Profile <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ruth Akorli is a PhD candidate in Marine Affairs at the University of Rhode Island and an Ocean Nexus Student Fellow. Originally from Ghana, her research interests lie in gender, environmental change and coastal adaptation in Ghana\u2019s Volta Delta. Her PhD work examines how selected coastal communities in this Delta experience and respond to erosion and coastal flooding. She is particularly focused on state-led resettlement, sea defence projects and adaptation in place. She is interested in how these interventions affect women\u2019s lives and livelihoods. Her work also explores how existing power relations, social and economic inequalities shape their experiences of displacement, recovery and adaptation. This work draws on African feminist thought and African intersectionalities to understand these questions.
