Covers fossil fuels, renewable energy, and sustainability tradeoffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Energy is a multidisciplinary subject: while design of energy systems such as electrical, thermodynamic, and renewables are discussed in engineering and physics, the environmental impacts of the energy industry is a subject of environmental science. Further, as energy has a key role in the economy of every society, the decision making and policy in this sector are being studied by economists, and social scientists. Throughout this course, students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of energy regarding the physical environmental and socioeconomic aspects, which prepares them to critically understand the global energy challenges and possible solutions for sustainable energy development.This course attempts to engage students in critical understanding, thinking and dialogue about the global energy challenges and how to tackle them. It discusses the fundamental concepts of energy including conservation of energy, energy conversion, and energy systems. It also explains various resources for energy, how to use it efficiently, and alternative ways (e.g. renewable energies) to reduce negative environmental impacts such as global warming and paths to a sustainable energy in future.
