How and where have they been implemented? How are they evaluated?&nbsp; What are the natural, political, social, cultural, historical, and legal factors related to the design, management, and evaluation of MPAs? What is our current state of knowledge of these factors? What do we still need to know?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this course, we will try to answer these questions.&nbsp; We will explore the myriad of concepts related to marine protected areas.&nbsp; The topic of MPA management does not fall within a distinct discipline; instead, MPA management draws on numerous fields and theories from the natural and social sciences.&nbsp; The debate surrounding MPAs and their management is constantly evolving.&nbsp; In this course, we will examine the current state of knowledge of MPAs and MPA management.&nbsp; We will use a variety of perspectives to guide us as we evaluate the use of MPAs as a marine spatial planning and management tool.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Required for : Elective Typical Semester : Fall Typically Taught By : Tracey Dalton &nbsp;Explores design and management of marine protected areas.&nbsp;What are marine protected areas (MPAs)?
