{"id":2848,"date":"2016-02-05T12:25:17","date_gmt":"2016-02-05T17:25:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/?p=2848"},"modified":"2019-11-01T14:47:24","modified_gmt":"2019-11-01T18:47:24","slug":"dennis-nixon-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/2016\/02\/05\/dennis-nixon-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Nixon, Dennis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Program:<\/strong> Master of Marine Affairs<br \/> <strong>Current Position:<\/strong> Professor and Director of Rhode Island Sea Grant Program<\/p>\n<p>Professor of Marine Affairs Dennis Nixon has served as the Director of the Rhode Island Sea Grant Program since July 2013.\u00a0 In that role, he leads a multi-million dollar research and education program devoted to using scientific knowledge to improve the management of Rhode Island\u2019s coastal waters.\u00a0 Prior to that, he served for four years as the Associate Dean for Research and Administration at the Graduate School of Oceanography, and the previous 8 years as the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the College of the Environment and Life Sciences, both at the University of Rhode Island.\u00a0\u00a0 He has been a faculty member at the University of Rhode Island for the past 39 years, teaching courses in the area of marine and coastal law.\u00a0 He is particularly proud of the thousands of former students now working in marine industries, government, law and science.\u00a0 He has lectured on marine law topics in 27 states and 26 countries on 6 continents.\u00a0 He is the author of over 50 articles and the casebook <em>Marine and Coastal Law<\/em>, first published in 1994 and released in a second edition in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Nixon earned his Bachelor\u2019s degree in history at Xavier University, his law degree at the University of Cincinnati, a Master of Marine Affairs at the University of Rhode Island, a Certificate on International Institutions at the University of Geneva, and a Certificate in Ocean Law from Harvard Law School.\u00a0 He is an avid sailor on vessels of all sizes, and races his own boat weekly on Narragansett Bay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI came to URI in 1975 to get my Master of Marine Affairs degree and enjoyed it so much I never left.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>M.M.A., 1975, Professor and Director of the Rhode Island Sea Grant Program<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2848","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-alumni"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2848","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/5"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2848"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2848\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":8369,"href":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2848\/revisions\/8369"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2848"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2848"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/maf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2848"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
