href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1619\/Amelia.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[2875]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1619\/Amelia-237x300.jpg\" alt=\"Amelia\" width=\"237\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Amelia Moore, Assistant Professor of Sustainable Coastal Tourism and Recreation in the Department of Marine Affairs, is currently in The Bahamas for the Spring of 2016.\u00a0\u00a0 She will be conducting research and teaching at the College of The Bahamas with a Fulbright Scholar Award from the U.S. State Department.\u00a0 Because of a long program hiatus, she is the first American to receive a Fulbright to travel to The Bahamas in over a decade.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the College of The Bahamas Dr. Moore is co-teaching a course on research methods and the art of research presentation to graduating biology majors and assisting in the creation of an Anthropology minor linked to the College\u2019s Small Island Sustainability Program.\u00a0 \u00a0A cultural anthropologist by training, her research includes an investigation of new tourism development, destination design, sustainable tourism practices, and the travel branding of small islands as these events pertain to the era of global change known as the Anthropocene.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Moore recently gave a talk on her work at the American Anthropological Association\u2019s Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado, and this Spring she will be speaking at the Bahamas National Trust\u2019s Natural History Conference in Nassau, Bahamas, and at the American Association of Geographer\u2019s Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California.\u00a0\u00a0 Her latest publication is entitled, \u201cAnthropocene Anthropology: Reconceptualizing\u00a0 Contemporary Global Change,\u201d and it can be found in the March 2016 issue of the <i>Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute <\/i>(<a href=\"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/1467-9655.12332\/abstract\">http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/1467-9655.12332\/abstract<\/a>).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Moore is currently accepting applications for a Masters or PhD level student to begin a degree in Marine Affairs in the Fall of 2016.\u00a0 The application deadline is March 1<sup>st<\/sup>,
