Smith, an assistant professor in communication studies and marine affairs, is one of ten researchers from across the U.S. to receive the award. Smith\u2019s collaborative research, with partners at the Metcalf Institute for Marine &amp; Environmental Reporting and URI&#8217;s College of Arts &amp; Sciences, focuses on how journalists cover scientific topics and what innovative approaches to science journalism could bridge the gaps between mainstream media and scientific institutions.
