Honors Program<\/strong><\/p>\n 8.60.10<\/strong> Honors Program. <\/strong>The Honors Program is constituted as an Academic Experience. The academic requirements of the Honors Program and its General Catalog language are determined through the processes that apply to all academic programs, as detailed in other parts of the University Manual and its appendices, except when specific exception is made in these paragraph. #16-17-15<\/a> #25-26-FSEC-13<\/a><\/p>\n 8.61.10<\/strong> Content.<\/strong> The Honors Program curriculum shall consist of four years of course work at the undergraduate level, integrated as follows:#16-17-15<\/a><\/p>\n 8.61.11<\/strong> 100- and 200-level offerings shall be general courses specifically created for the program or existing courses that have been modified to serve its purposes, and may enroll up to 30 students each.#16-17-15<\/a> #25-26-FSEC-13<\/a><\/p>\n 8.61.12 <\/strong>The Honors Program shall offer a yearly interdisciplinary colloquium, entitled the URI Honors Colloquium. The colloquium shall take the form of lectures and presentations by nationally and\/or internationally prominent speakers, and be open to the public. URI faculty and\/or staff shall serve as coordinators for the colloquia. Emeriti professors and campus visitors may also participate. Honors Colloquium courses of one to four credits shall be scheduled to accompany the Honors Colloquium. Enrollment in Honors Colloquium courses shall normally be limited to students with sophomore standing or above .#16-17-15 <\/a> #25-26-FSEC-13<\/a><\/p>\n 8.61.13<\/strong> 300-level offerings shall normally be limited to 20 students and shall ordinarily be offered for three to four credits.#16-17-15<\/a> #25-26-FSEC-13<\/a><\/p>\n 8.61.14<\/strong> 400-level offerings shall consist of honors projects and interdisciplinary seminars of three to four credits. Seminars shall be limited to 20 students each.#16-17-15<\/a> #25-26-FSEC-13<\/a><\/p>\n 8.62.10<\/strong> and <\/b>8.62.11<\/strong> Removed. #25-26-FSEC-13<\/a><\/p>\n 8.63.10<\/strong> Removed. #25-26-FSEC-13<\/a><\/p>\n 8.63.11<\/strong> Courses subject to Honors Contracts may satisfy academic requirements of the Honors Program subject to the conditions stated at 8.63.12. #08-09-24<\/a> #10-11-20<\/a> #16-17-15<\/a> #24-25-16<\/a> #25-26-FSEC-13<\/a><\/p>\n 8.63.12 Honors Contracts.<\/strong> Honors contracts allow students to earn credit for<\/span> non-Honors coursework by pursuing more advanced study by special agreement with<\/span> the instructor and approval by the Honors Program. Honors contracts may be pursued by<\/span> students who have completed at least six credits of non-Contract Honors coursework, or<\/span> who are concurrently enrolled in the sixth credit of non-Contract Honors coursework.<\/span> The following restrictions apply; any exceptions to these restrictions must be approved<\/span> in advance by the <\/span>Director, Associate Director, or Honors Contract Coordinator of the<\/span> Honors Program<\/span>: (i) Honors Contract credits shall not amount to more than one-third<\/span> (1\/3) of a student\u2019s total coursework required for the completion of Honors Program<\/span> requirements; (ii) Honors Contracts confer no extra credit for the course or for a<\/span> student\u2019s degree (no exceptions are possible to this restriction); (iii) a student shall not<\/span> engage in more than one Honors Contract per semester; (iv) Honors Contracts cannot<\/span> be completed during the summer sessions or J-Term; nor can Honors Contracts be<\/span> applied to 100-level courses, internships, independent studies, study abroad, or courses<\/span> at other institutions; (v) contracted courses must be taken for a letter grade and must be<\/span> completed with a grade of B or better within the limits of the semester to count towards<\/span> Honors Program requirements; (vi) a student who does not complete the proposed work<\/span> to the satisfaction of the instructor will not earn Honors credit for the course; (vii) Honors<\/span> Contracts are to be entered into on a strictly voluntary basis for both student and<\/span> instructor (no exceptions are possible to this restriction); (viii) an instructor may enter<\/span> into no more than three Honors Contracts in a given semester. #24-25-16<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n 8.63.13<\/strong> The Honors Program shall supply a list of names of the students who have successfully completed the Honors Program to the Office of Enrollment Services which shall enter on the transcript of students who meet requirements this notation: \u201cCompleted the University Honors Program.” #24-25-16<\/a> #25-26-FSEC-13<\/a><\/p>\n 8.64.10<\/strong> Program Direction and Development.<\/strong> The Director of the Honors Program in collaboration with the Teaching, Advising, and Admissions Committee shall be responsible for overseeing the Honors Program.#16-17-15, <\/a>#17-18-23<\/a>, #18-19-32<\/a> #25-26-FSEC-13<\/a><\/p>\n 8.64.11<\/strong> The Honors Program Curriculum and Advisory Committee shall approve all courses offered in the Honors Program before those proposals are forwarded to a standing committee of the Faculty Senate. No faculty member shall be compelled to teach in the Honors Program or direct Honors projects. #16-17-15<\/a>, #18-19-32<\/a> #25-26-FSEC-13<\/a><\/p>\n 8.64.12<\/strong> The Teaching, Advising and Admissions Committee shall conduct periodic evaluations of the Honors Program and its separate components. #16-17-15<\/a>, #18-19-32<\/a> #25-26-FSEC-13<\/a><\/p>\n 8.65.10<\/strong> Department and College Responsibilities.<\/strong> Fannon Institute advisors and upper division advisors shall inform eligible students about the Honors Program.#16-17-15<\/a> #25-26-FSEC-IFSR-01<\/a><\/p>\n 8.65.11<\/strong> Neither departments nor colleges may establish requirements that prohibit eligible students majoring in their departments or colleges from participating in the Honors Program.#16-17-15<\/a><\/p>\n
