James Mitchell Varnum House Garden

57 Peirce Street | East Greenwich, RI 02818

The Varnum House Museum is a historical site listed on the National register of Historic places. The house was built in 1773. In the last few years, the house has been extensively renovated. The house and gardens are open to the public where many events including weddings are held on the grounds.

In 2011, the Master Gardener project team began to create a historic dye, medicinal, herb and household garden using plans appropriate to the era. They have installed detailed signage for each of the historic plants. Along with the host the MG volunteers host public events and tours of the house and gardens.

Master Gardener volunteers are onsite and tending the garden on Saturday mornings in May through October.
