{"id":3459,"date":"2026-09-28T10:08:52","date_gmt":"2026-09-28T14:08:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/mendendeuerlab\/?p=3459"},"modified":"2026-09-28T10:08:52","modified_gmt":"2026-09-28T14:08:52","slug":"the-synergy-project-opens-at-studio-blue-smd-labs-alyssa-tsukada-collaborates-with-local-artist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/mendendeuerlab\/the-synergy-project-opens-at-studio-blue-smd-labs-alyssa-tsukada-collaborates-with-local-artist\/","title":{"rendered":"The Synergy Project Opens at Studio Blue:  SMD Lab&#8217;s Alyssa Tsukada collaborates with local artist!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year&#8217;s Synergy Project Opening Reception in the Studio Blue Gallery featured a sculptural\u00a0piece created by Boston-based artist, Marilu Swett, in collaboration with Alyssa Tsukada, one of our SMD PhD students.\u00a0Fascinated by the sheer number of marine organisms in the food web, and the role of fluorescence and bioluminescence, Marilu created a series of whimsical sculptural pieces that glow in the dark, loosely based on marine forms. Conversations with Alyssa, and the experience of taking the research boat to collect phytoplankton samples and viewing these organisms through the microscope, resonated with Marilu\u2019s studio process.
