The URI band program is inventive and diverse. It includes wind, brass, and percussion players of varying abilities, including some who are non-music majors. Participation in these ensembles offers students the possibility to rehearse exciting music and perform at events and tours both on and off campus.<\/p>\n

Wind Ensemble<\/h3>\n

This group has earned an exemplary reputation throughout New England. Selected by audition<\/strong>, members are the most outstanding wind and percussion players at URI. Since its inception in 1963, the ensemble has been dedicated to presenting the highest-quality literature from all musical periods, although there is particular interest in American wind literature. They have performed at several national conferences and the New England Wind Festival. They were among the few college-level ensembles to perform at the 2009 Eastern Division Music Educators National Conference, where they earned high accolades and praise.

University Concert Band<\/h3>\n

Comprised of music and non-music majors, this large ensemble performs a wide range of music, from traditional to contemporary. Membership is open but requires a seating placement audition.<\/strong>

Marching Band and Pep Band<\/h3>\n

With its versatile marching style, which blends traditional techniques and outstanding contemporary show design, the URI Marching Band<\/a> is respected throughout New England for its musical achievement and entertaining performances. It plays at major athletic events and other functions during the fall semester. Students from all majors play in the wind, brass, and percussion sections, and perform in the color guard. The URI basketball Pep Band provides musical enthusiasm at the URI Rams’ games. No audition is required<\/strong> for membership in either group.
