Graduate Audition Requirements<\/h2>\n

The portfolio should consist of 5 scores of original compositions (no arrangements please), accompanied by at least three audio recording of the pieces submitted. The other two pieces may be a synthetic\/midi version if no audio recording is available.<\/p>\n

The compositions should display:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. A diversity of styles, showing an understanding of avant-garde techniques<\/li>\n
  2. Diverse instrumentation (for instance: solo, vocal, chamber ensemble, electronics, large ensemble)<\/li>\n
  3. Rhythmic and metric sophistication<\/li>\n
  4. Harmonic inventiveness, and exploration of post-tonal harmonies<\/li>\n
  5. Motivic and melodic artistry<\/li>\n
  6. Textural refinement<\/li>\n
  7. Strong sense of structure and form<\/li>\n
  8. Attention to scoring details (dynamics, tempos, articulations, tonguing, bowings)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
