{"id":1470,"date":"2020-04-23T10:16:45","date_gmt":"2020-04-23T14:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/naval-science-technology\/?page_id=1470"},"modified":"2026-01-07T13:11:49","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T18:11:49","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/naval-science-technology\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The University of Connecticut-University of Rhode Island Navy STEM Coalition<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><div class=\"oembed oembed-youtube-com\" style=\"\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ztRKBECpLKM\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NavySTEM ANCHOR Intro\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ztRKBECpLKM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In 2017, the <a href=\"https:\/\/navy-stem.uconn.edu\/\">University of Connecticut<\/a> (UConn) and the University of Rhode Island (URI) were awarded a grant from the Office of Naval Research to assist in expanding the naval science and technology workforces of Rhode Island and Connecticut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Home to&nbsp;the&nbsp;Naval Submarine Base New London,&nbsp;the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, over 600 naval supply chain companies, and major production hubs for both&nbsp;Raytheon, and&nbsp;General Dynamics \u2013 Electric Boat, Rhode Island and Connecticut each play a vital role in the U.S. Navy\u2019s supply chain. With submarine production expected to rise significantly in coming years, demand is growing for a large workforce of talented STEM professionals in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an effort to meet this need, our program supports engineering students as they pursue Navy-related careers by connecting them with valuable research and professional development opportunities.
