{"id":3609,"date":"2021-11-12T14:05:11","date_gmt":"2021-11-12T19:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/neuralpclab\/?page_id=3609"},"modified":"2021-11-12T14:05:11","modified_gmt":"2021-11-12T19:05:11","slug":"ph-d-position","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/neuralpclab\/open-positions\/ph-d-position\/","title":{"rendered":"Ph.D. Position"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>One full-time Ph.D. Position in Biomedical Engineering at NeuralPC Lab, University of Rhode Island<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Neural Processing and Control Lab (NeuralPC Lab) at the\u00a0University\u00a0of\u00a0Rhode\u00a0Island\u00a0(URI), Department of Electrical, Computer, and\u00a0Biomedical\u00a0Engineering\u00a0(ECBE) has\u00a0one Ph.D.\u00a0position\u00a0opening in the field of neural signal processing, machine learning algorithms towards developing cutting-edge brain-computer interface (BCI) systems.\u00a0The\u00a0position\u00a0offers a competitive stipend and tuition waiver for the graduate assistants. The nature of this\u00a0position\u00a0will provide the\u00a0graduate students with opportunities to work on multidisciplinary collaborative projects.<\/p>\n<p>We are seeking highly motivated and talented graduate research students whose research interests lie at the intersection of neural signal processing and machine learning algorithms. Some of our current research projects are: Investigating functional neural dynamics underpinning auditory processing dysfunction through multiscale recording-stimulation frameworks, investigating electro-vascular neural patterns of motor and non-motor brain functions in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), developing hybrid BCI systems guided by personalized algorithms for patients with ALS, and developing graph-based data fusion frameworks towards guiding hybrid BCIs.<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidates must have a master\u2019s degree in electrical\u00a0engineering\u00a0or\u00a0biomedical\u00a0engineering, a background in neural\u00a0engineering, signal processing, machine learning algorithms, and extensive programming experience with Matlab. Background in BCI and control systems, cognitive neuroscience and other programming languages such as C++ are desired but not mandatory.<\/p>\n<p>The ECBE department offers programs in BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. URI\u2019s College of\u00a0Engineering\u00a0offers innovative undergraduate and graduate programs with comprehensive doctoral research. The main campus is located in Kingston, an established, family-friendly, small community only five miles from Narragansett Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.\u00a0Kingston\u00a0lies in close proximity to popular tourist destinations, like Narragansett, Boston, and New York, yet still retains its small-town feel.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, a brief summary of the current and proposed research, GRE, TOEFL\/IELTS (for international students only), official\/unofficial master and bachelor academic transcripts, and three letters of recommendation to Dr. Yalda Shahriari (Yalda_shahriari@uri.edu).<\/p>\n<p>Please send all your documents as a single PDF file.
