The 24th Annual International Nonviolence Summer Institute 2023 will be an on-campus nonviolence training/conference experience! Join our excellent trainees from all over the world for a special and unique program!

One-Week Nonviolence Workshop (1 Week Program) Monday, June 5 – Friday, June 9, from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM).

This workshop introduces you to the Kingian nonviolence conflict reconciliation course and critical concepts and essential background information about nonviolence, including core values, conflict analysis, nonviolent historical movements, dynamics of social change, and the study of several of the most critical essays written by Dr. King. Participants learn through instructional and interactive small-group activities and training exercises: some evening discussions and dialogue opportunities supplement morning and afternoon sessions. This program suits those who want to learn Kingian nonviolence but not the trainer’s certification or those who wish to continue next year for their certification due to the time limit.

Level 1 Kingian Nonviolence and Conflict Reconciliation Training (2 Week Certification Program) Monday, June 5 – Friday, June 16, from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM).

The initial week of the Level I training consists of introductory training in the Kingian nonviolence conflict reconciliation course and introduces key concepts and essential background information about nonviolence, including core values, conflict analysis, nonviolent historical movements, dynamics of social change, and study of several of the most important essays written by Dr. King. Participants learn through a combination of instructional and interactive small-group activities and training exercises: some evening discussions and dialogue opportunities supplement morning and afternoon sessions.

The second week of the training prepares participants to become certified trainers and workshop facilitators qualified to deliver a 16-hour Introductory Nonviolence Workshop. This training portion involves guided practice presentations, supervised facilitation rehearsals, and demonstrations of simulated workshop sessions. Final certification as a Level I nonviolence trainer requires mastery of basic Kingian nonviolence concepts and successful demonstration of workshop facilitation skills by the conclusion of the Institute.

Level 2 Advanced Nonviolence Leadership Training (1 Week Certification Program) Monday, June 12 – Friday, June 16, from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

The Level II course offers an in-depth study of Kingian nonviolence methodology, including a review of the Level I curriculum, leadership characteristics, historical and organizational analysis, social action research, and community organizing and mobilization strategies. Emphasis is on leadership development and continued involvement in nonviolence education and training efforts. The training is presented using a seminar, small group discussion format, individual study, and team activities. Level II certification as a nonviolence leader and trainer expects to demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of nonviolence as represented through the study and analysis of nonviolent leaders, organizations, or movements.
