The URI Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies has awarded Zahra Khan the Human Rights
Award in recognition of her significant contributions to women\u2019s social rights, refugee rights,
and the CIRIGHTS project.
Zahra Khan is a senior at URI, majoring in psychology and political science. She is dedicated to
advancing human rights and works tirelessly towards creating a more peaceful world.
Zahra has consistently shown an unwavering passion for and commitment to human rights, both
personally and professionally. In every aspect of her life, she advocates for and upholds the
values of peace and human rights.
Since joining the CIRIGHTS project in May 2023, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to
its growth and development. She continually seeks innovative ways to contribute to human rights
initiatives at URI and actively engages with networks to support and expand CIRIGHTS’
mission.
Zahra frequently advocates for human rights and raises awareness about critical issues such as
refugee rights, human trafficking, and women\u2019s social rights. She effectively uses social media to
amplify the voices of marginalized individuals.
Her friend and co-researcher, Mya MacNeil, describes Zahra as an “unparalleled force in human
rights at the University of Rhode Island,” highlighting her exceptional passion, initiative, and
