Stein (Art)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>August 25, 1937 \u2013 October 24, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Arthur Benjamin Stein (Art), a cherished father, husband, brother, friend, and mentor, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family. He served as a Professor Emeritus in the Political Science Department at the University of Rhode Island. He was a founding member of the URI Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Stein dedicated over fifty years to URI, establishing himself as a<br>distinguished scholar in political science and spirituality. He is honored for his<br>unwavering commitment to nonviolent activism and for imparting teachings of<br>peace and nonviolence around the world. Dr. Stein received the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/nonviolence\/2023\/01\/01\/nonviolence-trainers-award-january-2023\/\">International<br>Nonviolence Trainer&#8217;s Award<\/a> from the URI Center for Nonviolence and Peace<br>Studies in 2023. His significant contributions include several acclaimed books,<br>such as &#8220;Seeds of the Seventies: Values, Work, and Commitment in Post-Vietnam<br>America&#8221; and &#8220;Let There Be Light: Experiencing Inner Light Across the World&#8217;s<br>Sacred Traditions.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond his academic accomplishments, Dr. Stein was known for his exceptional<br>mentorship, guiding countless college students to success throughout the years. His<br>humility, wisdom, and genuine compassion for all were profound and infectious.<br>His family characterized his life as &#8220;defined by compassion, curiosity, and joy.&#8221; His<br>absence will be felt deeply by all who had the honor of knowing him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Stein is survived by his loving wife, Clare Sartori; his daughters, Lisa Stein and<br>Arielle Stein (husband Bryan Hughes); his brothers, Harold Stein (wife Nancy) and<br>Chuck Stein (wife Vicki); and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and extended<br>family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our thoughts are firmly with his family, friends, and loved ones as they celebrate<br>his remarkable life and enduring legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.averystortifuneralhome.com\/obituaries\/arthur-stein\">Click here to read Dr. Arthur B.
