College of Nursing Student Ambassadors<\/h4>\n

The College of Nursing Student Ambassador Program, is a volunteer group of outstanding student leaders who provide outreach to prospective students and guests at the University. Nursing ambassadors also attend special events on behalf of the University. Nursing Ambassadors participate in a variety of recruitment activities both on and off campus. Ambassadors provide presence and assistance at formal College events where student representation is needed.<\/p>\n

Sigma Delta Upsilon at – Large Chapter<\/h4>\n

Founded in 1922 by six nursing students, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing has more than 100,000 active members and 600 chapters at institutions of higher education and healthcare partners from Armenia, Australia, and Botswana to Thailand, the United States, and Wales. Sigma members include clinical nurses and administrators, academic nurse educators and researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and others working to fulfill the organization\u2019s vision of connected, empowered nurse leaders transforming global healthcare.

College of Nursing Undergraduate Advisory Committee<\/h4>\n

The Nursing Advisory Committee\u2019s purpose is for students to work collaboratively with the College\u2019s administrative team to ensure lines of communication are open between the student body, faculty, staff and administration. The Advisory Committee will collectively hear and share the CON student body perspective on a number of topics to strengthen our community. Applications for the Committee open each spring for the following academic year.<\/p>\n

Student Nurses Association of URI (SNA)<\/h4>\n

The Student Nurse Association (SNA) is a professional nursing fraternity that represents students preparing for the future as professional nurses. The association engages in a shared governance approach that encourages health related discussions, health advocacy and interdisciplinary collaboration among students across the university.<\/p>\n

Pathways to Nursing<\/h4>\n

The goal of the Pathways to Nursing program is to increase diversity in the nursing workforce. A more diverse nurse workforce can help to reduce health-care inequalities and achieve health equity in the United States. The Pathways to Nursing program provides students with resources, academic, and social support to help attain a bachelor’s degree in nursing. All students who are nursing majors are eligible, and students who are from backgrounds underrepresented in the nursing profession are encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n

 Peer Mentor Program<\/h4>\n

The peer mentor program matches upper-class nursing students to first year Nursing students to provide support and guidance throughout the first year. Mentors check in regularly with their mentees, offer advice, and help them navigate the academic and personal challenges associated with transitioning to college Examples of mentor support include offering study and time-management strategies, sharing insights about campus life, sharing their clinical experiences, and serving as a source of encouragement and support for their younger peers.<\/p>\n

Policies & Requirements<\/h1><\/p>\n

Undergraduate Guidelines and Policies<\/h3>\n

Entry policy into the Pre-licensure Clinical Course Sequence:<\/strong><\/p>\n

First-year students with no previous college study, are admitted to the Fannon Institute for Student Success with a major in nursing. After completion of the pre-requisite courses (BIO 220, 221, 222, 223, CHM 103, 124, NUR 100, WRT 104 or 106) with a minimum grade of C or higher in each course and 3.00 overall grade point average, students will be considered for transfer into the College of Nursing and the clinical course sequence. Seats are limited and competitively <\/em>granted based on GPA. Those who meet the minimum criteria but do not achieve a seat will be considered the following year, in the same competitive manner.  Students who have not met the prerequisite criteria for transfer to the College of Nursing and the clinical course sequence by the end of two years or sixty credits will be required to choose a different major at the University.<\/p>\n
