Founded in 1922 by six nursing students, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) has more than 100,000 active members and 600 chapters at institutions of higher education and healthcare partners from Armenia, Australia, and Botswana to Thailand, the United States, and Wales. Formed on Apr 20, 1980, Delta Upsilon at-Large Chapter is the 114th chapter established at the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. The University of RI\u2019s College of Nursing is a founding member.

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A SIGMA NURSE<\/strong>
Students are invited to join Sigma through one of the more than 500 chapters located at colleges and universities around the world.<\/p>\n
\u25cf Are enrolled in a bachelor\u2019s nursing program or equivalent
\u25cf Achieve academic excellence based on set criteria *
\u25cf Are ranked in the highest 35 percent of their nursing class
\u25cf Have completed one-half of the nursing curriculum
\u25cf RN to BSN students must have completed 12 credit hours<\/p>\n
\u25cf Have completed one-fourth of the nursing curriculum
\u25cf Achieve academic excellence based on set criteria *
\u25cf Meet the expectation of academic integrity<\/p>\n
No matter where you are in your nursing career, if you meet the criteria for consideration and are a current or retired nursing professional, or a student in a post-licensure graduate program you may apply to join as a Nurse Leader.
An applicant must meet the following criteria for consideration for membership as a Nurse Leader:
\u25cf Be a registered nurse, legally recognized to practice in his\/her country.
\u25cf Have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent in any field; and
\u25cf Have demonstrated achievement in nursing scholarship, leadership or service<\/p>\n
