Nurses Association"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>University of Rhode Island College of Nursing alumna Raqu\u00e9l P\u00e9rez \u201917 has been named executive director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/risna.nursingnetwork.com\/\">Rhode Island State Nurses Association<\/a>, the organization tasked with overseeing nursing practice in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P\u00e9rez has extensive experience in nursing practice, health care innovation and organizational leadership, the association said in its announcement. She most recently served as chief operating officer of the national publication <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenursingbeat.com\/\">The Nursing Beat<\/a><\/em>. She also served as chief nursing officer and director of communications at STAND+, a footwear brand tailored to the specific safety and comfort needs of health professionals. Previously, P\u00e9rez was a registered nurse specializing in neonatal intensive care and women\u2019s oncology for Care New England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P\u00e9rez graduated cum laude from URI in 2017 as a first generation bachelor&#8217;s degree recipient, earning a bachelor of science in nursing. After graduating, P\u00e9rez spent the next year as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americorps.gov\/\">AmeriCorps<\/a> member, aiding in affordable housing. During her time in AmeriCorps, she said she grew as a leader leader with the help of Smith Hill Community Development Corp. and College Leadership Rhode Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P\u00e9rez was named a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alumni.uri.edu\/events-reunions\/annual-special-events\/10-under-10-awards\/\">10 Under 10 recipient<\/a> by the URI Foundation in 2019, in recognition of her \u201coutstanding professional achievement and dedication to the community.\u201d The awards highlight young leaders who embody the true spirit and values of the University, and \u201cdemonstrate excellence in the core values of the University: creativity and scholarship; diversity, fairness, and respect; engaged learning and civic involvement; and intellectual and ethical leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P\u00e9rez also presented as a TEDx Speaker and served as a Forbes fellow, AmeriCorps professional and&nbsp;as a Segal Leadership Fellow under Service Year Alliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rhode Island State Nurses Association, a constituent member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), is the authority on matters concerning nursing practice in the state of Rhode Island.
