The University of Rhode Island College of Nursing is offering a unique opportunity to hear from Dr. Paul Farmer, founder of Partners in Health at the Rhode Island Nursing Education Center<\/a> on Dec. 12.<\/p>\nFarmer,\u00a0“the man who would cure the world,” will address the difficulties of providing health care in remote locations in his presentation: “The Caregiver’s Disease: Ebola and the Challenge to Nursing in West Africa.”<\/em><\/p>\n A renowned medical anthropologist and physician, Farmer has dedicated his life to improving health care in some of the world’s poorest regions. The subject of Tracy Kidder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, Mountains Beyond Mountains<\/em>, Farmer is credited with providing access to care for such diseases as HIV\/AIDS and tuberculosis for the world’s poorest and most vulnerable in locales such as Haiti, Peru and Liberia. The URI College of Nursing will be working with Partners in Health, sending faculty and students to its health care facilities in Liberia in 2018.<\/p>\n The Nursing Education Center is located at 350 Eddy St., Providence<\/a>. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12. Admission is free, but seating is limited.
