PERSONAL RESILIENCE: HOW TO SHIFT, THRIVE AND BOUNCE-UP with MJ Callaway.
3 Sessions on Mondays, 2:00PM-3:30PM starting 10/16 on Zoom

No one can escape change, yet we resist it. Having resilience as a foundation enables us to flip every transition that comes our way into a positive experience. Mj Callaway will share her three core POWER strategies and her concept for bouncing up higher and stronger. We will get practical tactics and trademarked techniques to develop a Bounce-Up Mindset so that we can thrive through life’s changes. ANESTHESIA: ITS HISTORY AND USES with James Wishart
1 Session on Tuesday, October 24, 10:00AM-11:30AM

We will begin with a brief history of the development of anesthesia, with an emphasis on the nursing pioneers who were instrumental in its development. James Wishart will then discuss his experiences as both a provider of anesthesia and as a surgical patient. He’ll also touch on certain illnesses that can lead one to an anesthesia experience; specifically, movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor. Click to register online or call 401-874-4197.

VETERAN’S DAY CELEBRATION AT OLLI- We will be celebrating our OLLI Veterans in November. We would like to recognize our members/and or family members who have served or are currently serving. Please let us know by sharing your name, service information, and a photo (past or present). We hope this year’s Wall of Honor will be bigger and better than last year! (Click here to view last year’s wall). OLLI veterans who submit their information will be invited to a free tour of the World War II Museum in Wakefield on November 8. Deadline for submission is October 1. Email information to olli@uri.edu or bring your photo to OLLI and we will scan it for you! 

We will unveil our WALL OF HONOR on November 2, at 12:00PM. Light Refreshments will be served. At 1:00PM, Tim Gray, founder and president of the WWII Foundation in Wakefield, will join us to share Stories From the Disappearing Generation. THE URI GUITAR FESTIVAL is bringing internationally renowned musicians to Kingston. As the URI Guitar Festival celebrates its eighth year Oct. 18-22, it is going through a growth spurt—more artists, more music and more of the educational opportunities it’s become known for. For music lovers, the festival will feature seven concerts, showcasing more than 20 internationally renowned musicians. Click for more information.

2023 CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR LECTURE Reporting from the Front Lines-A conversation with Mstyslav Chernov, Friday, October 20, at 7 p.m. Edwards Hall, URI Kingston Campus- The event will be livestreamed on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, and YouTube. 

Mstyslav Chernov is a Pulitzer Prize-winning video journalist at The Associated Press and president of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers. His courageous reporting in Mariupol earned the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service and became the basis of his award-winning documentary 20 Days in Mariupol. Drawing from over a decade-long career covering major conflicts, social issues, and environmental crises across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, Chernov will discuss his experience documenting the initial days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the role of journalism during wartime, and his transition to feature filmmaking. Click for more information and to register.

FINAL ENERGY SERIES LECTURE

Arjun is a volunteer NASA Solar System Ambassador since 2018, and has received his Master’s Degree in Computational Sciences and Robotics. He is currently working as a Systems Engineer at Lockheed Martin, Mount Laurel, New Jersey.  We will discuss the formation of black holes, their variable size range, and the evidence of their existence. We will also describe how understanding black holes will give more insights on understanding the universe.
