{"id":17175,"date":"2025-03-20T15:24:54","date_gmt":"2025-03-20T19:24:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/olli\/?page_id=17175"},"modified":"2026-01-09T15:55:49","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T20:55:49","slug":"policies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/olli\/policies\/","title":{"rendered":"Policies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>CODE OF CONDUCT<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The University of Rhode Island<br>Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mission of OLLI at the University of Rhode Island is to develop and nurture a community of<br>older learners through courses, presentations, tours and events which will enhance their<br>learning, enjoyment, health and well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To fulfill this mission, all segments of the OLLI at URI community \u2013 members, faculty and staff &#8212;<br>agree to the following standards of behavior:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>OLLI will foster an inclusive culture supporting the University of Rhode Island as a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community \u2013 a vibrant, integrated university that celebrates the uniqueness of its members and fosters a culture of valuing people, excellence, and giving back.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All interactions and communications will be conducted with integrity and respect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Classroom and remote (e.g., via Zoom or WebEx) discussions among and between faculty and members will encourage a positive and respectful exchange of ideas and information. With mutual respect for our experiences, ideas, value systems and beliefs, we will engage in informative discussion and civil debate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Members, Faculty and Staff affirm their commitment to a learning philosophy based on tolerance. OLLI students and instructors do not attempt to \u201cconvert\u201d others to their ideas or beliefs. Consensus is not the goal, but rather, listening to and considering, different points of view.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Violation of the above Code of Conduct may result in being asked to discontinue participation in<br>a particular class, and may lead to discipline in accordance with the URI Student Handbook,<br>applicable University polices, including the Policy on Nondiscrimination, and applicable<br>collective bargaining agreements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>DISCLAIMER<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The courses offered by OLLI do not imply the endorsement of a particular philosophy,<br>product, or procedure. The content is the view of the presenter and is for educational<br>and informational purposes only and not as professional advice for specific cases or<br>circumstances. Participants need to be aware of the potential risks of using limited<br>knowledge when integrating techniques and procedures that are new to them.<br>Participants need to consult their own financial, legal, and medical professionals for<br>advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>INCLEMENT WEATHER<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During the snowier months, it is important that you stay up to date with the<br>weather forecast. OLLI follows URI\u2019s policy of cancelling classes. If the University is<br>closed due to inclement weather OLLI will be closed. Use the URI Alert Page: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/safety\/alert\/\">(uri.edu\/safety\/alert)<\/a> for information of power outages, weather alerts, and the campus notices.<br><br>Your safety is our concern. Should the OLLI staff determine it is best to cancel OLLI<br>classes every attempt will be made to notify you two hours prior to the start of your<br>scheduled class.<br>\uf0b7 Check the OLLI website at <a href=\"http:\/\/uri.edu\/olli\">uri.edu\/olli<\/a><br>\uf0b7 Call the OLLI office at 874-4197 for a recorded message.<br>\uf0b7 Check your email for updates from OLLI.<br>You will be notified of class makeup dates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>REFUND POLICY<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Memberships and Gift Cards are non-refundable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To withdraw from a class and receive a refund or credit, you must notify the OLLI office at least<strong><em>&nbsp;two weeks prior to the start<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;of class.&nbsp; Notify the OLLI by email&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:olli@uri.edu\">olli@uri.edu<\/a>&nbsp;or call 874-4197.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No-shows forfeit their course fees.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Day trips and special tours are prepaid, so there are no refunds for cancellation or withdrawal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Classes that do not meet minimum student registration numbers are subject to cancellation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>OLLI follows the University\u2019s policy of canceling classes for certain holidays and because of inclement weather.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PHOTOS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Photos taken during OLLI events or programs may be used in promotion material for OLLI @ URI.
