Gallaudet, a Connecticut native, brought his innovative aircraft design and manufacturing venture to Greenwich Bay in 1915. His 1895 model of a glider with a warped wing is on display at the Smithsonian and is thought to have possibly influenced the Wright Brothers. Gallaudet\u2019s unique gear-drive propulsion system was used by the US Navy in early experiments with anti-submarine aircraft during World War I. However, Gallaudet\u2019s advanced designs proved to be too far reaching and he was forced to retire (his company would continue in a different direction into the 1930s). This well-illustrated program follows Gallaudet\u2019s career and looks at what happened to his vision, his company, and its location on Greenwich Bay.<\/p>\n
