There have always been those women throughout our history who have surmounted socially determined gender roles to make a difference. Sometimes their contributions have been made quietly, while others have boldly defied the restrictions of their times. In 2019 we looked at ten of these women; this class introduces ten more. Some of their names may be familiar; others may be new to you.<\/p>\n
Of course, some women made their impact in the worlds of sports and entertainment: Glenna Collett Vare, considered R.I.\u2019s greatest woman all-around athlete; Annie Smith Peck, mountaineer, adventurer, author, suffragist; Ruth Buzzi, comedienne, the Gladys Ormphby of Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.<\/p>\n
