For example, if your class runs through October 31, and your membership expires on September 20, you must renew at the time of registration.<\/p>\n Wednesday<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n Thursday<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n NEW SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP<\/u><\/b> Come learn and discuss the possibility of introducing a new Special Interest Group at OLLI<\/span> this fall. Krystyna Kasman, OLLI<\/span> member and instructor, invites us to dive into the question \u201cAre We God\u2019s Laboratory?\u201d The meeting will be open to all members on Thursday, August 25, at 1:00pm at OLLI<\/span>. Registration is not required.<\/p>\n Consider: Are we really alone in our universe? Looking for the answer to this question pushes astronomers, astrophysicists, astrobiologists and other astros\u2026 over the edge of human intellect to design experiments and equipment to perform these experiments and fulfill the hope for an answer. One of such tools, the super creation of the human brain is the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) \u2013 an infrared space observatory that orbits the Sun 1 million miles from the Earth and doing so uncovers the history of the Universe\u2019s creation \u2013 its expansion from Big Bang around 13.8 billion years ago. The first full color image was taken from back over 13 billion years ago to see some of the earliest light of the universe. To search for alien life, the JWST is looking for clues in the atmospheres of distant planets. It has ability to analyze atmospheres hundreds of light-years away, by capturing the signature of water and specific gas molecules. The telescope, for example, has been able to reveal hydrocarbons and silicate in the dust obscuring the Cartwheel Galaxy, using its Mid-Infrared Instruments.<\/p>\n Krystyna W. Kasman holds a M.Sc. from Warsaw University (Poland) and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Polish Academy of Science. Following postdoctoral research and work as a researcher at SUNY, Stony Brook, Krystyna was a senior scientist at Estee Lauder\u2019s laboratories. Then she moved back to work in academia. In her research she used spectroscopy and electron microscopy among other methods. She loves to be a teacher as well as a learner. Among her many hobbies are the study of different gone-by cultures.
