Join Emanuel Abramovitz for 5 sessions beginning February 9, from 11:00AM to 12:45PM. We’ll document how the minorities who came to America transformed not only the music of the 20th century but the whole industry of entertainment and popular culture. YOU\u2019RE INVITED TO A FREE PRESENTATION:  The Spirit of Flight will be presented by Jet Vertz at the West Warwick Library FREE of charge for OLLI members and the general public. This is an outreach opportunity to introduce OLLI to potential new members. This three-part series will be meeting from 1:00-2:30pm on Friday, February 3, 10, and 17. Feel free to come to any one or all the presentations. \u201cWe were not born with wings, yet our spirit of flight never waned from the dawn of the ages. This program discusses and showcases flight throughout human history \u2013 from early pioneers to jet engines, and to the future of air travel on our planet and beyond. Registration is not required. The library is located at 1043 Main Street with ample parking.<\/p>\n

Why not take advantage of this and bring in your books and maybe you\u2019ll find something new to read! (Please no videos, magazines or textbooks). <\/p>\n

RHODY OUTPOST CHALLENGE<\/strong>: For the next month OLLI will be collecting 32\/33 oz. bottles of Cooking oil (vegetable, canola, olive, coconut all acceptable). CHECK OUT THIS ARTICLE BY OLLI MEMBER FRANK HEPPNER on “Saving and Restoring Kingston Station<\/a>, and a Railfan’s Life: Part II<\/a>.” Frank taught more than 25,000 students as a professor at URI. But his real passion was railroads. Read about his passion and how it led him on a path to lead the effort to save and restore Kingston Station, the oldest continuous passenger train station on the East Coast. In this article, Frank describes how Kingston Station was saved and restored twice, once in 1974 and again after a 1988 fire. At the end of the article is a Q&A with more information about Kingston Station and its operations today. There are some terrific photos as well.<\/p>\n
