{"id":32697,"date":"2025-06-27T13:34:19","date_gmt":"2025-06-27T17:34:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/online\/?page_id=32697"},"modified":"2025-07-01T09:36:47","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T13:36:47","slug":"online-teaching-practices-principles","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/online\/faculty-resources\/course-design-online\/online-teaching-practices-principles\/","title":{"rendered":"Online Teaching Practices &amp; Principles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quality Matters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the course design principles that guide URI\u2019s online course development process, Quality Matters describes an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qualitymatters.org\/qa-resources\/rubric-standards\/teaching-skills-set\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Online Instructor Skills Set<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The instructor understands the institutional context in which s\/he teaches.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The instructor is knowledgeable about the technologies used in the online classroom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The instructor understands the instructional design requirements of an online course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The instructor understands the pedagogical components of the online teaching and learning process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The instructor is knowledgeable about various methods of measuring the success of the teaching and learning process in the online classroom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The instructor establishes a social presence and communicates effectively through writing and\/or audio\/video.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The instructor meets the academic and\/or professional standards in his\/her chosen field of teaching.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Online Learning Consortium<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Online Learning Consortium has a <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelearningconsortium.org\/consult\/olc-quality-scorecard-suite\/\">Quality Scorecard suite<\/a> that covers various aspects of designing, teaching, and administering online learning.
