Technology mediates the experience and engagement, making the design of the course more salient. Once the design is in place, however, course delivery and your role in it are critical to its success.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\">This topic focuses on teaching strategies and techniques for facilitation, interaction, and communication, for creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, as well as for course management and feedback. Events include self-paced \u201ccourses\u201d, high impact seminars, faculty institutes, and other special programs. Like any focused experience, these provide gains depended upon the time and introspection given to them. The times for self-paced courses are a broad estimate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"cl-wrapper cl-card-wrapper\"><a class=\"cl-card  \" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/online\/online-pedagogy-competency-course\/\" title=\"\"><div class=\"cl-card-container text\"><div class=\"cl-card-text\"><h2>Online Pedagogy Competency Course<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"cl-wrapper cl-card-wrapper\"><a class=\"cl-card  \" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/online\/faculty-resources\/online-teaching-practices-principles\/\" title=\"\"><div class=\"cl-card-container text\"><div class=\"cl-card-text\"><h2>Online Teaching Practices &amp; Principles<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Paths to Becoming a Qualified Online Instructor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"qualified-paths\"><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1u_eIWaIuF6y-FYIgjz7FD_IqrbS3mVnnzONe9qkZq9o\/edit?usp=sharing\" data-type=\"attachment\" data-id=\"32727\"><em>Current list of URI\u2019s Qualified Online Instructors<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\" id=\"qualified-paths\">Both URI\u2019s regional accreditor, New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE)<sup>1<\/sup>&nbsp;and the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) require in order to offer online courses and programs that we meet their standards which require that, \u201cFaculty responsible for delivering the on-line learning curricula and evaluating the students\u2019 success in achieving the on-line learning goals are appropriately qualified and effectively supported.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\" id=\"qualified-paths\">The Joint Committee on Online and Distance Education has designated the methods listed below as ways that faculty can show they are \u201cappropriately qualified\u201d to teach online.&nbsp;<em>Whether you\u2019re looking to teach online with URI or with URI Online, there are different ways to gain qualification.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>At URI<\/strong>, there are <strong>4 paths<\/strong> to qualification as an online instructor:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list fullwidth\">\n<li>Completion of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/online\/online-pedagogy-competency-course\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"32715\">URI\u2019s Online Pedagogy Course<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Certificate of training in online teaching from a national organization such as OLC, Quality Matters, or the University of Wisconsin\u2019s Professional Certificate in Online Education, and demonstrated competency in URI\u2019s learning management system, Brightspace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Certificate of training in online teaching from another regionally accredited higher education institution, and demonstrated competency in URI\u2019s learning management system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty can demonstrate \u201cexperience\u201d by submitting one of their Brightspace courses to the Quality Matters peer review process.
