ABE provides teacher professional development, curriculum materials, and research-grade equipment and supplies to secondary schools. These programs can help teachers and students better understand biotechnology and prepare for possible careers in the industry:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Online courses for high school students which can give the student college credits: MIC 190- Issues in Biotechnology (3 credits)<\/li>\n<li>Biotechnology Academies: 5 RI high schools have developed comprehensive biotechnology programs. URI provides support for developing new programs and keeping existing programs current in the technology<\/li>\n<li>Plant Genetics after-school lab courses for high school students which can give the student college credits (3-6 credits)<\/li>\n<li>Rhode Island Biotechnology Outreach Center \u2013 funded by the NSF EPSCOR program.
