Biography

Sara Hanson has more than 10 years’ experience working as a manufacturing engineer in the pharmaceutical, drug, and medical device industry developing, optimizing, and validating manufacturing processes.  Sara has worked on the manufacturing floor in a fast-paced, results driven environment providing leadership and technical support to establish project timelines and ensuring operational execution is in compliance to validated parameters.  She currently serves as the Manufacturing Specialist at the University of Rhode Island’s College of Pharmacy’s Pharmaceutical Development Institute.

Prior to joining URI PDI, Sara held the role of Sr. Manufacturing Engineer II at Zimmer Biomet (Citra Labs) manufacturing parenteral blood rejuvenation and citrate-based anticoagulant drugs.  In this roll she planned, coordinated and managed activities for process development, equipment qualification, process validation execution and commercialization of three products and ongoing line extensions.  She was responsible for timely CAPA investigations, deviation closures, calibration and maintenance activities, and managed annual re-validation schedules and executions for all manufacturing equipment.  She authored standard operating procedures defining a validation, calibration and maintenance program for a sterile manufacturing facility resulting in standardization of documentation methods for Qualification Protocols and Reports (Installation, Operational, and Performance Qualifications), Calibration and Maintenance Programs, and Validation Maintenance Protocols and Reports.

Sara also held the role of Advanced Manufacturing Engineer II at Becton Dickinson (formally Bard Davol) where she optimized processes for current powder hemostat and sealant products, and led R&D studies, qualifications, and formulation design and process development of a powder hemostat product.

Sara received her B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and her B.A. degree in German Language and Literature from the University of Rhode Island.
