Preceptor Training and Development Workshop<\/h3>\n

Using the DISC Assessment to Understand Human Behavior and Effective Communication<\/strong>
\nThis interactive, engaging session will provide the participant an understanding of the DISC Assessment and the four behavior styles associated with DISC: Dominant, Influence, Steady and Conscientious. Each participant will receive a personal DISC Assessment to assist with their understanding of what DISC is and how it can assist with effectively communicating and working in teams.
\nWhat is DISC?<\/strong>
\nThe DISC Assessment gives us valuable information on how we prefer to communicate with others. It additionally, provides insightful instructions on treating and communicating with others the way they want to be treated.
\nThe DISC assessment is a simple, practical and highly accurate tool that measures behaviors, observable indicators. It first helps us to focus on understanding our own communication styles, and then equally as important, how to enhance communications with others. It does not measure intelligence, values, or performance, but rather encourages us to explore all behavior styles and appreciate the differences.
\nProgram Goal<\/strong>: Through an understanding of one\u2019s own communication style, enable the preceptor participant to communicate with the medical team, including students on pharmacy rotations, in an effective manner.

\nTarget Audience:<\/strong> URI College of Pharmacy preceptors and those pharmacists interested in becoming a preceptor.
\nLearning Objectives<\/strong>
\nUpon completion of this application-based learning activity, participants will be able to:<\/em>
\n1. Explain the four behavior styles and attributes of each style type;
\n2. Identify each of the behavior styles based on observable behaviors;
\n3. Define natural and adaptive behavior styles;
\n4. Explore strategies to adapt communication with each style type.<\/p>\n

Credit Designation: Wednesday March, 12, 2014 \u201cUsing the DISC Assessment to Understand Human Behavior and Effective Communication.\u201d
\nThis program will provide the participant with 3.0 contact hours (0.30 CEUs)<\/strong> of continuing pharmacy education credit for completion of this activity. No partial credit can be given.
\nAttendance and completion of online evaluations and self-assessment tools at the conclusion of each session are required to receive a statement of credit. Attendees must complete a Live Program Evaluation online and may immediately print their official statements of credit at the URI Continuing Professional Development site at https:\/\/www.uripharmacycpd.org\/<\/a> following the activity.
