The percentage and number of admitted applicants varies over time, depending on faculty commitments and available funding. However, over the last several years between 10-30% of applicants are admitted to the graduate program. While applicants with GPAs below 3.0 are rarely admitted, exceptions are considered when there is strong evidence of exceptional potential, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Hands-on research experience<\/strong> during or after undergraduate studies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Strong letters of recommendation<\/strong> highlighting research ability and dedication.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Upward GPA trajectory<\/strong> throughout undergraduate studies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Additional credentials<\/strong>, such as micro-credentials or certificates beyond the undergraduate degree.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>High GRE scores<\/strong> (90th percentile or above).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Admission Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants should have a bachelor\u2019s degree in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biological sciences, or a closely related discipline. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the program, requirements are flexible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Course Deficiencies:<\/strong> Applicants with gaps in their background may need to complete undergraduate courses for no program credit or demonstrate proficiency through a qualifying exam.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Research Alignment:<\/strong> Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact the College of Pharmacy faculty with research programs aligned with their research interests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Application Deadlines and Details<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Deadline:<\/strong> December 15th for admission in the following fall semester. Late applications may be considered but are less likely to receive teaching or research assistantships.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GRE Requirements:<\/strong> GRE scores are not required for the PhD program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Language Proficiency:<\/strong> Applicants whose native language is not English must meet URI&#8217;s language proficiency standards, as outlined on the Graduate School website.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How to Apply:<\/strong> Submit your application online through the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/graduate-school\/apply\/\">URI Graduate School<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<a class=\"cl-button  block-level prominent\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/graduate-school\/apply\/\" title=\"\">apply<\/a>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Funding<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teaching and Research Assistantships<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Graduate Teaching Assistantships:<\/strong> These include a stipend and tuition waiver. The duties include helping with lecture and laboratory preparations, recitations, proctoring, and grading exams.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Graduate Research Assistantships:<\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em>Some faculty members offer a wide variety of Research Assistantships, which are awarded to their graduate students.
