{"id":11328,"date":"2010-06-01T09:00:07","date_gmt":"2010-06-01T09:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/?p=11328"},"modified":"2010-06-01T09:00:07","modified_gmt":"2010-06-01T09:00:07","slug":"newslettersummer2010-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/2010\/06\/01\/newslettersummer2010-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Alumni Profile: Michael Sipala Class of \u201974"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"chunk\">\n<h1>Alumni Profile<\/h1>\n<h3>Michael Sipala Class of \u201974<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11335\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/michael-300x214.png\" alt=\"\" \/>Michael Sipala is Executive Director of Administrative and Ancillary Services for CharterCARE Health Partners*, a devoted husband and father, and a proud University of Rhode Island alumnus and donor.\u00a0 A Class of \u201974 graduate of the College of Pharmacy, Sipala left URI to develop an extensive career in hospital pharmacy\u2014beginning as a clinical pharmacist and\u00a0 venturing into administrative positions\u2014and returned only to give back to pharmacy students and the future of the profession.<br \/>\nSipala is firmly focused on improving patient care, an objective largely dependent upon successful communication and cooperation between program personnel and practitioners within the hospital system. \u201cThe toughest part of the job is getting people to come to the table\u2014physicians, pharmacists, and nurses\u2014to work on the same wavelength for the benefit of the patient,\u201d Sipala says.\u00a0 \u201cTo be successful, you have to be able to bring everyone together.\u201d<br \/>\nBut bringing people together is only part of the job.\u00a0 Sipala\u2019s challenge is inspiring interest among employees\u2014pharmacists in particular\u2014by specializing their work.\u00a0 \u201cWe put our pharmacists on different committees.\u00a0 The reason we do this is because pharmacists might find a niche for themselves.\u00a0 If they enjoy what they\u2019re doing, they\u2019ll want to become more involved with it and it becomes a project.\u201d<br \/>\nSipala also oversees student internships at St. Joseph designed to round students\u2019 experiences in the medical field and offer future pharmacists an additional path\u2014hospital pharmacy.
