{"id":11347,"date":"2010-06-01T08:00:06","date_gmt":"2010-06-01T08:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/?p=11347"},"modified":"2010-06-01T08:00:06","modified_gmt":"2010-06-01T08:00:06","slug":"newslettersummer2010-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/2010\/06\/01\/newslettersummer2010-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Seminar by the Sea"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"chunk\">\n<h2>Seminar by the Sea celebrates Silver\u00a0 Anniversary<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11350\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/sms-25th-300x258.png\" alt=\"\" \/>March 24-26, Newport, Rhode Island was once again a spectacular setting for the 25th Anniversary of Seminar by the Sea, offered by the <a title=\"Office of Continuing Professional Development\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/cpd\/ocpd\/\">College of Pharmacy\u2019s Office of Continuing Education<\/a>.\u00a0 The theme for this yearly favorite was Emerging Trends in Patient Care: Diversify Your Expertise and Perspective.<br \/>\nProfessional development programs on Wednesday, March 24 engaged URI College of Pharmacy preceptors and others in a detailed look at a successful Smoking Cessation Program. Program attendees spent the afternoon assessing available evidence behind some common natural products with <a title=\"Anne Hume, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/meet\/anne-hume\/\">Dr. Anne Hume<\/a> and <a title=\"Katherine Orr, Pharm.D., AE-C\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/meet\/katherine-kelley-orr\/\">Kelly Orr<\/a> from the college\u2019s <a title=\"Department of Pharmacy Practice\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/php\/\">Department of Pharmacy Practice<\/a>.<br \/>\nThe plenary sessions on Thursday and Friday addressed many timely topics such as the role of the pharmacist in the H1N1 response, the fight against multi-drug resistant bacteria, health information technology and the hazards of dispensing oral chemotherapy in the pharmacy.\u00a0 Christopher Koller, Rhode Island\u2019s Health Insurance Commissioner, spoke about the role for pharmacists in the much discussed Patient Centered Medical Home model.<br \/>\nAfter a successful seminar, the Office of Continuing Education looks forward to returning to Newport for the 26th Annual Seminar by the Sea which will occur on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, March 16, 17 &amp; 18, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Newport Hotel.
