College Research Day<\/h1>\n

\u201cWe have some great minds and ideas in The College of Pharmacy\u201d
\n– Associate Dean Bongsup Cho<\/a><\/b><\/h3>\n

 
\nDecember 3, 2013 \u2013 The College of Pharmacy held a ceremony to recognize faculty and student research achievements for the current year of 2013. Dozens of\u00a0research posters<\/a> were showcased throughout the pharmacy building.\u00a0 Associate Dean for Research Bongsup Cho, Ph.D.<\/strong><\/a> opened the ceremony recognizing faculty who had been awarded 24 different research grants<\/a> totaling $8.4 million.\u00a0 Also recognized were 10 graduate students who were given travel awards<\/a> to present their research at national and international meetings and 11 graduate students who were awarded various merit\/need fellowships<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0He also recognized a productive year in research publications<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The College of Pharmacy is a relatively small college, yet our research enterprise has proven to be solid and diverse, commented Cho.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"researchGrant sources included a diverse spectrum of grantors, from local funders such as South Kingstown Education Foundation to the federal agencies like the National Institute of Health (NIH), US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and state and pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer. The awarded grants supported a large spectrum of research topics such as Alcoholism, Lyme disease, Alzheimer\u2019s disease, cancer, diabetes, Affordable Healthcare, Medicaid\/Medicare, antibiotics, shellfish, maple syrup, etc.\u00a0 Most, if not all of the research, involved intense collaborations internally and externally. Our faculty and students traveled all over the world to include places as local as Newport and Boston to national travel across the country from Chicago, Orlando, Denver, to San Francisco, and internationally to Spain, Canada, and Britain all to present their research findings. Both faculty and students have been awarded national recognition on their meeting presentations and peer-reviewed manuscripts.\n<\/div>\n
