This award is a reflection of her outstanding scholarship, which makes important contributions to the intellectual community and enhances the research mission of the University.<br \/>\nProfessor LaPlante\u00a0is nationally recognized for <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/research\/laplante\/\">her work<\/a> in the treatment, virulence inhibition, control and prevention of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and device related infections.\u00a0She has received continuous funding of more than $7.8 million for her research from agencies such as NIH and the Department of Veterans Affairs.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The URI Council for Research recently recognized Associate Professor Kerry LaPlante with the 2014 Research Excellence Award in the Life Sciences, Physical Science, and Engineering.
