During his 20-year tenure as dean, he was instrumental in building the college\u2019s national and international reputation and in developing global partnerships with colleges of pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industry. Dean Luzzi was also instrumental in raising funds to support the growth of the college, including new programs, expanded campus facilities and scholarships. His other priorities\u2014research and faculty support\u2014led to the creation of three endowed academic chairs for the College of Pharmacy, the impact of which will resonate for generations.<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_3227luz.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[24026]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-24126 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_3227luz-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3227luz\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_3227luz-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_3227luz-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_3227luz-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_3227luz.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>On Friday, October 16 at 3:00 p.m., an overflowing crowd gathered for a very special event in the history of the College of Pharmacy &#8211; the dedication of the Dr. Louis A. Luzzi Dean&#8217;s Suite. The dedication program included speeches by Dean Paul Larrat, URI&#8217;s 11th President David M. Dooley, and alumnus Marc Bernarducci \u00a0\u201991, Pharm.D. \u201995.\u00a0 A tribute video featuring Norman Campbell &#8217;57, Leonard Worthen Hon.&#8217;84, Joan Lausier\u00a0&#8217;67 Ph.D. &#8217;71, Lois Vars Mason &#8217;62, and Henry Pedro &#8217;76 was shown, which brought laughter as well as tears.\u00a0 Lou&#8217;s wife Joyce Luzzi shared final thoughts, and then the crowd moved to the entrance of the Suite to unveil its new name!<br \/>\nAs Lou would have liked, the event ended with a fun, lively reception flowing into the second floor mezzanine overlooking the Heber Youngken Medicinal Garden on a perfect fall day. Among the alumni, student and <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-24127 size-medium alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_3242luz-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3242luz\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_3242luz-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_3242luz-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_3242luz-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_3242luz.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>friends in attendance were President Emeritus Robert L. Carothers, Provost Donald DeHayes, and several vice presidents and deans.\u00a0 All agree Lou would have been very pleased.<br \/>\nMany are asking how to honor Lou with a gift to the College.\u00a0 We believe Lou would \u200bsupport giving\u00a0to one of the Dean&#8217;s priorities.\u00a0 Those priorities and opportunities for giving are outlined on the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/support-the-college\/\">giving<\/a>\u00a0page on the College website.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was standing-room-only crowd that celebrated the dedication of the Dr. Louis A.
