{"id":39937,"date":"2019-05-13T14:26:06","date_gmt":"2019-05-13T18:26:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/?p=39937"},"modified":"2019-05-13T14:32:56","modified_gmt":"2019-05-13T18:32:56","slug":"uri-pharmacy-students-compete-in-national-pharmacy-and-therapeutics-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/2019\/05\/13\/uri-pharmacy-students-compete-in-national-pharmacy-and-therapeutics-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"URI pharmacy students compete in national Pharmacy and Therapeutics Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A group of University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy students achieved a noteworthy milestone recently, competing in the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) Foundation\u2019s National Student Pharmacist Pharmacy &amp; Therapeutics (P&amp;T) Competition.<\/p>\n<p>In this challenging contest, students from the URI chapter of AMCP joined teams from colleges of pharmacy across the country to work through a case study of a new medication, assessing its value, comparative effectiveness and pharmacoeconomic data. The drug selected for this year\u2019s competition was the abaloparatide (Tymplos\u00ae), which is a novel injectable therapy for women with osteoporosis at high risk for fracture.<\/p>\n<p>The college\u2019s team was comprised of PharmD students Cecilia Costello, Matthew Lefebvre, Rebecca Menghi, Imke Scheepers and Adam Turenne.&nbsp; The students received a travel grant from the college to attend the AMCP Annual Meeting in San Diego, held March 25-28, where the winner of the competition was announced. While the students did not earn the top prize, they gained valuable experience analyzing information to support managed care decision-making.
