Campbell Award for Ethics and Excellence in Healthcare, honoring her contributions to pharmacy and health care in general in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Pires, an adjunct clinical associate professor at URI, is also a consultant for the 340B drug program for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soleohealth.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Soleo Health in McKinney, Texas<\/a>, as well as the American and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ripharmacists.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rhode Island Pharmacists Associations<\/a>. She received the award March 12 at <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/2020\/02\/04\/seminar-by-the-sea-tackles-emerging-healthcare-trends-ce-credits-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seminar by the Sea, a continuing professional development conference<\/a> hosted by the URI Office of Continuing Education for the Health Professions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-42939 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_6728-copy-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_6728-copy-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_6728-copy-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_6728-copy-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_6728-copy-364x243.jpg 364w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_6728-copy-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_6728-copy-1000x667.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1223\/IMG_6728-copy.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Pires received her Bachelor\u2019s in Pharmacy and Pharm D. from URI in 2000, and her Master\u2019s in Pharmacology from Northeastern University.&nbsp;She has worked at Women and Infants\u2019 Hospital for most of her career, starting as a staff pharmacist in 1983. She was the longtime director of pharmacy for the hospital before being promoted to pharmacy director for all of the Care New England hospitals in 2015. She is responsible for the pharmacy supply chain, informatics and ambulatory pharmacy for Care New England, and she is part of the pharmacy services committee for 340B.<\/p>\n<p>Pires said she was surprised and honored to receive the award, particularly given it stands for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am humbled to receive an award that honors ethics,\u201d Pires said. \u201cThere is a great challenge to truth and integrity in our culture today. We think, \u2018If no one\u2019s looking, I won\u2019t get caught.\u2019 Well, the truth matters. He praised Pires on her long career and her willingness to work with the next generation of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists. Along with her long list of credentials from a career spanning more than 40 years, Pires has also volunteered to mentor 6th-year pharmacy students at URI, which exemplifies her commitment to the field.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s a really good listener, a really good mentor, great with advice, and she puts the student under her wings and makes sure that they do well,\u201d Larrat said. \u201cThis award is about excellence, yes, but it\u2019s really about integrity, ethics and compassion. It is through these attributes that Leslie has really become a leader in health care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While he was unable to attend the conference, the award\u2019s namesake, Norman Campbell sent his greetings to his former student at URI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeslie is more than qualified to receive this award,\u201d Campbell said. \u201cI\u2019m very proud to add to the list of my former students who have won the award.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seminar by the Sea, which took place March 11-13 at Gurney\u2019s Newport Resort &amp; Marina, is among the premier events hosted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/cehp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">URI Office of Continuing Education for the Health Professions<\/a>. The conference \u2014 \u201cEmerging Healthcare Trends: Treating the Whole Patient\u201d \u2014 brings together pharmacists, nurses, students and clinicians from multiple health care disciplines for three days of seminars and discussions.
