{"id":51018,"date":"2022-08-15T11:46:14","date_gmt":"2022-08-15T15:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/?p=51018"},"modified":"2022-08-15T11:46:14","modified_gmt":"2022-08-15T15:46:14","slug":"gallery-steam-summer-camp-students-get-lesson-in-pharmaceutical-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/2022\/08\/15\/gallery-steam-summer-camp-students-get-lesson-in-pharmaceutical-science\/","title":{"rendered":"Gallery: STEAM summer camp students get lesson in pharmaceutical science"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>URI College of Pharmacy professors hosted the high school-aged students in Avedisian Hall<\/h3>\n<p>Students from Global Science &amp; Envirotech, Inc.&#8217;s STEAM summer camp stopped by the URI College of Pharmacy last week for a lesson on medicinal compounding, and a tour through the Youngken Medicinal Garden outside Avedisian Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Professors Jie Shen, Matthew Lacroix and Erica Estus led the students through activities in the Compounding Lab, and Garden Coordinator Elizabeth Liebovitz conducted tours through the garden, where students worked on identifying medicinal plants.<\/p>\n<p>The STEAM <span class=\"x-el x-el-span c1-87 c1-88 c1-i c1-j c1-m c1-n c1-o c1-p\">(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts &amp; Mathematics)<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Summer Learning Initiative is a six-week summer program for kids funded by the United Way, Women\u2019s <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">United and additional funders and partners of the Summer Learning Initiative. The <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">initiative is a collaboration of OneCranston\u2019s Youth <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Opportunity Zone and the Cranston
