{"id":55311,"date":"2025-09-11T11:52:02","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T15:52:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/?p=55311"},"modified":"2025-09-11T11:52:54","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T15:52:54","slug":"lab-coat-ceremony-marks-motivating-transition-to-lab-science-for-undergraduate-pharmacy-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/2025\/09\/11\/lab-coat-ceremony-marks-motivating-transition-to-lab-science-for-undergraduate-pharmacy-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Lab Coat Ceremony marks \u2018motivating transition\u2019 to lab science for undergraduate pharmacy students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Third-year students ceremonially welcomed into Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences major<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Undergraduate pharmacy students were ceremonially welcomed into the URI College of Pharmacy\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/academics\/bsps\/\">Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences program<\/a>, where they will begin their careers in pharmaceutical research, during the college\u2019s Lab Coat Ceremony last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third-year students who have completed required prerequisites formally transitioned in the pharmacy major, where they will study drug discovery and design, disease mechanisms, drug delivery, and therapeutic interventions. It really does feel like a big step forward in my professional development as a future pharmaceutical research scientist,\u201d said student Chantelle Lilly. \u201cI am incredibly eager to get into a research lab. Taking my scientific oath really cemented just how important my role will be to future pharmaceutical endeavors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe ceremony was both symbolic and motivating. It offers opportunities in biomedical research, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or as a pre-med or pre-health pathway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The URI College of Pharmacy is the top ranked pharmacy school in the Northeast and routinely ranked among the top in the country. The college is ranked #1 in New England in research funding and has been among the top 10 in the country in that category in recent years.
