Our Work<\/h1>

The University of Rhode Island<\/strong> partners with healthcare organizations and biotechnology companies to develop targeted trainings based on the educational needs of the healthcare workforce. From Mental Health First Aid Certificate Training at primary care practices to Quality Improvement Training at RI’s Accountable Care Organizations, we have the resources to support a wide variety of training needs. We support the healthcare workforce transformations efforts of the Rhode Island Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) with the RI Department of Labor and Training through a Real Jobs RI Partnership, and hold the Transforming Health In Rhode Island.

Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Training Programs<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Educational activities targeted for HCBS sites are offered both virtually<\/strong> and in-person<\/strong>. Online activities are designed to <\/span>allow learners to complete a training at their own pace. <\/span><\/p>\n

HCBS Overdose Response Training<\/h2>

Become a Community First Responder! The HCBS workforce has direct access to patients and others in their homes or community settings which increases the likelihood of exposure to a person experiencing an overdose. This program will increase knowledge about the opioid epidemic, the ability to respond appropriately in an overdose situation, and provide training about how to administer naloxone. This one hour-long training is targeted towards paraprofessionals in the HCBS sector. <\/p><\/div><\/div>

Programa Comunitario de Primeros Auxilios: HCBS Respuesta a Sobredosis (Espa\u00f1ol) <\/h2>

Dado que la fuerza laboral de HCBS tiene acceso directo a los pacientes y otras personas en sus hogares o entornos comunitarios, este programa aumentar\u00e1 su conocimiento sobre la epidemia de opioides, su capacidad para responder adecuadamente en una situaci\u00f3n de sobredosis y brindar\u00e1 capacitaci\u00f3n sobre c\u00f3mo administrar naloxona. Los m\u00f3dulos existentes se complementar\u00e1n con una capacitaci\u00f3n de una hora recientemente desarrollada dirigida a paraprofesionales en el sector HCBS. <\/p><\/div><\/div>

Social Determinants of Health<\/h2>

The health of an individual or a community is about much more than fighting disease or infection. Our overall health is determined, in part, by access to social and economic opportunities, such as the level of education or economic standing of a community, and the resources and supports available in our homes, neighborhoods, and local governments. Improving these social determinants of health is key to \u201cBuilding a Culture of Health\u201d in Rhode Island. Several recorded presentations on this topic are available.
