Visit the PTCAS\u2019s page about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ptcas.org\/Professionalism\/\">Professionalism and Core Values<\/a> for further exploration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the required preparation?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no required major for pre-physical therapy students\u2014students are welcome to explore their <a href=\"https:\/\/premed.uconn.edu\/majorexploration\/\">major options<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is variability when it comes to course requirements for entrance to a physical therapy program, so applicants are encouraged to explore their specific programs of interest and research their coursework expectations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Review the APTA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ptcasdirectory.apta.org\/5287\/Comparison-of-Course-Prerequisites-by-Program\">Comparison of Course Prerequisites by Program<\/a> document to find what various schools require. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The majority of programs expect one year of Anatomy and Physiology, one year of General Chemistry, one year of Physics, one year of Psychology and one semester of Statistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>URI&#8217;s Physical Therapy Program, for instance, expects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Biology \u2013 Introductory or General Course + lab (not botany)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biology Course \u2013 Second level (not botany), or Exercise Physiology, or Neuroscience Course + lab (not anatomy\/physiology)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Human Anatomy and Physiology Courses + labs (not exercise physiology)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chemistry Courses + labs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Physics Courses + labs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Psychology \u2013 Introductory or General Course<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Psychology \u2013 Second level Course (e.g., developmental, adolescent, social, lifespan)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Statistics Course<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Writing Intensive or Compositions Course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to undergraduate preparation, applicants are also required to take the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ets.org\/gre\">GRE<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The typical physical therapy program takes three years to complete.
