For those that prefer to learn by a video tutorial, that is provided in the button below: <\/p>\n\n\n<a class=\"cl-button  \" href=\"https:\/\/uri-edu.zoom.us\/rec\/share\/9KRb7TiIaTmh-pGQhmKXS_k_tnbkDAtvn6OYMWCdVETJok7z07meyV2-8u6X3WWP.viw_P48Q7tmFiExE?startTime=1751308715000\" title=\"\">Portfolio steps video tutorial<\/a>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Completing your profile in Handshake<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To begin, you&#8217;ll need to login to <a href=\"http:\/\/uri.joinhandshake.com\">Handshake<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sign in using your URI single sign on (SSO) username and password&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For alumni, you\u2019ll need to update your login information to be your personal email address. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When logging into Handshake, navigate to the top right corner of the page and click the circle where your initials or picture are.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select \u201cmy profile\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Required<\/strong>: make your profile &#8220;public&#8221; so members of the HPAC committee can review it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Complete each section of your profile, including:<\/p>\n\n\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-tabs-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-tabs  \">\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Photo, Summary and Skills<\/h1>\n\n<p><strong>A photo<\/strong>: consider adding a photo of yourself here that is professional in nature. While it\u2019s not required as a part of the PATH process, you will need to upload one when completing your health professional application in the future.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Summary<\/strong> &#8211; an overview of who you are, what you\u2019ve done and your goals<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Skills<\/strong> &#8211; add about 10 skills here of what you are best at. We suggest considering adding the core competencies of the profession you are applying to. Examples would include the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/prehealth\/pre-health-competencies\/\">core competencies<\/a> for medical school, published by the AAMC that include critical thinking, and more.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Work Experience<\/h1>\n\n<p><strong>Work experience<\/strong> &#8211; add <strong>all<\/strong> of your experiences here. Complete the organization name, your title, and the dates you completed the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Include here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clinical or patient care experience&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Volunteer work or other leadership in the community<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research experience&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shadowing&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other work experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do not include your on campus involvement here, this will go in a separate section<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In the description, provide both of the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3-4 sentences overview of what this was\/is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For example:<\/strong> URI 101 Mentors are undergraduate students that co-moderate the first year introductory course for a group of 25 students. The course is dedicated to provide guidance on how to navigate their college experience. In this role I would meet with the course instructor once a week to review the content for the lesson plan and be creative in ways to deliver the content, and facilitate the content each week in class.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3-4 sentences on why this was impactful for you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For example:<\/strong> This opportunity provided me with leadership skills by creating lesson plans and activities to deliver the course content in a meaningful way. I had the chance to meet one-on-one with 15 students mid-way through the semester, giving them guidance on selecting their courses and giving them advice on how to navigate issues, like roommate conflict. From this experience I was able to have a deeper meaning for caring for patient<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Education and Courses<\/h1>\n\n<p><strong>Education<\/strong> &#8211; this is usually already populated for you, but you do want to ensure your GPA is listed in this section<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click the pencil to edit&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our office will calculate your science BCPM GPA for you, but if it\u2019s not here, type this into \u201cDepartment GPA\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your cumulative GPA is not listed, include that here as well&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Courses<\/strong> &#8211; list all courses that you\u2019ve taken here at URI or other institutions (not high school)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong>: course name and code need to be included as they are written on your unofficial transcript, and\/or in eCampus<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can add multiple courses at once by selecting the \u201c+\u201d sign in the top right corner<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Organizations<\/h1>\n\n<p><strong>Organizations<\/strong> &#8211; include any on campus involvement you have here, including student organizations or clubs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provide a description of your involvement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you held a leadership role, ensure you indicate that in the title&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Projects<\/h1>\n\n<p><strong>Projects<\/strong> &#8211; include anything you\u2019d like to highlight here. Examples could include published research or group projects that you are\/were a part of<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Languages<\/h1>\n\n<p><strong>Languages<\/strong> &#8211; include any languages that you speak, outside of English<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-boxout-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-boxout  \"><h1>Step 2: Completing an Applicant Readiness and Reflection Form<\/h1>\n\n<p>In addition to completing your Handshake profile, you&#8217;ll also complete an Applicant Readiness and Reflection form, formatted as a Microsoft form. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The form will take about 60 minutes to complete and will ask questions about your readiness to apply to health professional programs. Take the time to respond to these questions the same way you would in any other professional writing piece, and should be used as a way to self-reflect on your readiness for your health professional program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your answers will be reviewed as a part of the PATH process by the HPAC Committee.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When completing the applicant readiness form, you&#8217;ll be prompted to include:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A copy of your URI unofficial transcript &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/registration-records\/transcripts_old\/view-unofficial-transcript\/\">request these<\/a> through eCampus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your resume or CV &#8211; use the resources from the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/career\/\">Center for Career and Experiential Education (CCEE)<\/a><strong> <\/strong><strong>before<\/strong> uploading your resume or CV <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal Statement &#8211; all applicants should have attended a Personal Statement Writing workshop.
