It is open to juniors from Rhode Island who show exceptional promise for admission to medical school and have a proven, strong commitment to practicing within primary care in underserved medical communities in Rhode Island.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/prehealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1746\/Brown-Medical-School-Stairs.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17274\" style=\"width:481px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/prehealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1746\/Brown-Medical-School-Stairs.jpeg 980w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/prehealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1746\/Brown-Medical-School-Stairs-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/prehealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1746\/Brown-Medical-School-Stairs-768x432.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/prehealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1746\/Brown-Medical-School-Stairs-364x205.jpeg 364w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/prehealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1746\/Brown-Medical-School-Stairs-500x281.jpeg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Successful applicants are offered provisional admission to the Alpert Medical School of Brown University pending completion of their undergraduate degree and other conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have shown a demonstrated commitment to caring for underserved communities through previous experience <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be a Rhode Island resident and graduate of a RI high school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 (though successful candidates often have higher GPAs)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have completed at least five full semesters of study at URI<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transfer students entering URI in their junior year are ineligible for BEIP, but are encouraged to apply in the standard AMCAS cycle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Still have at least two semesters of undergraduate study to complete at URI<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites Coursework Requirements: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to applying, students must complete the following prerequisite coursework with grades of a B or higher: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Biology: BIO 101\/103 and BIO 102\/104<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chemistry: CHM 101\/102, CHM 112\/114, CHM 227\/226 and 228<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biochemistry: CMB 311<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Physics: PHY 111\/185 and PHY 112\/186<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Math: One course in Calculus or Statistics (Biostatistics preferred)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Writing: no specific course requirement, but strong writing skills are expected<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This early contingent admission pathway is <strong>highly selective<\/strong>. Competitive applicants typically demonstrate a strong commitment to serving medically underserved communities and possess the academic and professional qualifications indicative of readiness for medical school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does the Admission Committee at Brown look for?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Individuals admitted to Alpert-Brown via the EIP will be able to demonstrate through their academic work, extracurricular activities, and life experiences some combination of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strong commitment to the local community, specifically underserved medical communities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An exceptional understanding of and motivation for medicine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic performance in college indicating very high aptitude for success in studying medicine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unique life experiences that enrich a candidate\u2019s understanding of medicine or medically underserved populations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Nomination Process<\/h2>\n\n\n<a class=\"cl-button  block-level prominent\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/prehealth\/other-path-programs\/\" title=\"\">BEIP PATH Process<\/a>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Early Identification Program (EIP) is a cooperative venture between Alpert Medical School at Brown University and the University of Rhode Island.
