Hannah Francis

Biography

Hannah J. Francis is a Gulf Southern native from the city of New Orleans. In 2022, she defended her dissertation entitled “Passports to the Atlantic: Enslaved and Free Travelers of Color from Nineteenth Century New Orleans, 1818-1831” in the History Department of Rice University. During the 2022-2023 Academic Year, she taught classes at URI as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Africana Studies Department. Dr. Francis is delighted to continue sharing her research interest in Migration, the Atlantic World, Women and Gender, and the African Diaspora with students at URI.
